Lotto Texas Jackpot Skyrockets to $83M, Ranking as 4th Largest in Game History
Today's Lotto Texas jackpot has swelled to an estimated $83 million, making it the largest advertised jackpot in the country and the fourth-largest in the history of Lotto Texas. The prize also ranks as the second-largest worldwide. No winner emerged from Wednesday's drawing, which has contributed to the jackpot's impressive growth.
The drawing taking place tonight offers an estimated cash value of $50.2 million. Winners will be subject to a federal tax of 24% ($12,048,000) and will take home 76% ($38,152,000). In Texas, lottery winners do not pay a state tax on their winnings.
Gary Grief, executive director of the Texas Lottery, said, "This historic Lotto Texas jackpot run will continue for at least another weekend and based on sales for the last several drawings, we know Texas Lottery players are excited to have an exclusive chance at winning the largest jackpot prize on the continent.”
The current jackpot is the largest offered by Lotto Texas since May 29, 2010, when the estimated jackpot reached $97 million. Tonight's drawing marks the 93rd in the ongoing Lotto Texas jackpot run, which began with an estimated annuitized $5 million on September 19, 2022. If no winner emerges tonight, the next jackpot will likely rank as the third-largest in Lotto Texas history, potentially reaching $85 million or more.
The current annuitized jackpot is the second-largest in the world, surpassed only by the EuroMillions jackpot, which is estimated at $109.58 million for Friday's drawing. Recent wins in the multi-state MegaMillions and Powerball lotteries have reset their jackpots to $20 million for this weekend's drawings.
Texas Lottery officials advise winners to sign their tickets, store them in a secure location, seek financial and legal advice, and contact the Texas Lottery to schedule an appointment to claim their prize.
